Astia Geographic, for Landscape & Nature

Fujifilm film recipe based upon Astia film simulation for natural colour

Astia Geographic Film Recipe

Astia Geographic

It seems that the original Fujifilm film simulations, including Provia, Velvia and Astia, are somewhat overlooked when film recipes are made. I wanted to try them out and see what looks were possible, and which situations would see them work well.

Here’s Astia Geographic, a bright and cheery recipe with natural colours and a white balance for use in bright daytime conditions. It’s one that I’ve used outdoors for landscape photos, and on the coast for some seascapes too.

    Pleasing colours and clean.
Yes, would be nice to have more recipes using other unpopular film sims.
Btw, can you think of a recipe for extreme arid dramatic volcanic landscape?

    Cheers

Thank you. I’ve got a couple more under development, so I hope to publish them in a little while too.
As for volcanic landscapes, I’ve been to the volcanic area in North Arizona in winter, and I remember the pale grass and black lava against blue skies. For something like this, I’d be tempted to try an Eterna Bleach Bypass recipe, such as Blanko Bleach – https://film.recipes/2022/06/22/blanko-bleach-for-skies-trees-seas/ – or maybe Kodachrome II from FXW – https://fujixweekly.com/2021/04/05/two-fujifilm-x-trans-iv-film-simulation-recipes-kodachrome-ii/ – I think both of these would bring out the character of the scene.

Thanks. The 2 by Ritchie are very nice. I already have them saved (most of his recipes). Shall give them a go, also yours suggested above, in October.
