Our Film Recipe challenge this time, was all about the stylised monochrome recipe inspired by Daido Moriyama. This recipe has deep blacks and a compressed midtones, that means it rewarded creative shooting and could produce dramatic results. Daido Moriyama by David Simpson

David’s selection of photographs is an artistic journey, sharing with us sculptures, art installations and street scenes. I was so impressed with these, that it was the obvious place to open our gallery this time around.

Daido Moriyama by Tirzo Flores

There’s a lot of mood and impact in this selectionfrom Tirzo, including an excellent match between dog and film recipe! Take a look …

Daido Moriyama by Sabrina Magnusson

Sabrina is a regular contributor to our galleries, and enjoys shooting natural and landscape scenes. I found this recipe harder to use in these situations, but Sabrina has found the way. I love the natural details and flat tone here.

Daido Moriyama by David Forsdike

Readers will know that David shares photos from Southern France in our galleries, and in this selection we not olny see the streets (of Carcassone this time), but we also go indoors to a musical event.

Our next stop on our glocal tour is St Augustine, with a selection of great images that take us on a tour of the sights in this historic coastal town.

Whenever Marcel joins in our challenge, you can be sure that he’ll find a creative and inventive way to capture his images. He’s a thoughful photographer that explores not only individual frames, but also short series and compositions acros multiple shots. Here are some of his samples with Daido Moriyama.

A film recipe that inspried by an artistic photographer can inspire us to also be creative in our photography. In this selection we get a selection of cute baby photos, but with the added stlye of this mono recipe.

Daido Moriyama by Anthony Gianotti

Monochrome and cities go well together, and it’s great to see some examples here from the handsome city of Chicago with the Daido Moriyama film recipe.

Daido Moriyama by Hugh Jones (XE3)

In these last sections of our gallery, I’m pleased to be able to share interpretations of the film recipe applied to older cameras in the Fujifilm range. In this set, Hugh has adapted the recipe for his XE3 and says, “I used an M42 mount Rexagon 28mm f/2.8 lens with a Zhonghi Lens Turbo II, as I figured I’d use the same focal length Daido was known for using”.

Daido Moriyama by Lewis Gilbert

Lewis took our challenge recipe out on to the streets of London for some photographs. He adapted the recipe just slightly, remoing the grain for a smoother look.

Daido Moriyama by Paula van den Akker (XT3)

And our final selection in this gallery is from Paula van den Akker, who adapted the film recipe for their X-T3. I enjoyed shooting flowers and plants with this recipe too. Such a striking look.

As always, we’ve had an excellent response to the challenge and a beautiful selection of imagesa from all around the world. The challenge is missing something though … you! If you’d like to take part, here are the details of teh present challenge.
