Film recipes that suit foggy, misty and hazy conditions
Mist and fog do something interesting to a photograph — they reduce contrast, create layers of depth and give the whole scene a mysterious, atmospheric quality. The right recipe amplifies this rather than fighting it, holding the softness and the grey tones without making the result look like a mistake.
These recipes tend towards lower contrast and cooler or neutral white balances. Many use Eterna or Classic Chrome as a base, which both handle the flat light of foggy days particularly well. I find some of my best shots come on days most photographers would stay home.
These recipes are drawn from both the site and the Film Recipes App, ordered first by how closely each recipe was designed to capture the mist & fog character — from direct interpretations through to inspired-by looks — and then by popularity within each group. App-only recipes are included and marked 🔒.
